Rose Bridges Francis, age 85, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away on May 7, 2023 of complications from cancer. A Celebration of Life for Rose will be held at Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Cartersville, 100 West Church Street, on Wednesday, May 31 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am. There will also be a gathering at the Villas at Pine Grove, 71 Pine Grove Road, after the service. Donations to Sam Jones are requested in lieu of flowers.

Rose is survived by her children, Kirk Francis of San Antonio, Texas, Jennifer Fearon of Belvedere, California and Barbara Arrants of Franklin, Tennessee, her sister Jane Bass of Amarillo, Texas, and her nieces Jonna Bass of Amarillo, Meme Bass of Ft. Worth, Texas and Allison Bass of Midland, Texas. She is also survived by her cousin Jim Redmond of Greenville, South Carolina and her sister-in-law Mary Bridges of Ft. Worth, Texas, her children John and Kim Bridges, the spouses of the aforementioned, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Born in Atlanta, August 15, 1937, Rose moved with her parents, Virginia Redmond Bridges, of Cochran, Georgia and John B. Bridges of Atlanta, to Birmingham, Alabama and then to Houston, Texas, where she attended Lamar High School. Rose went on to graduate from Southwest Texas State University. Afterward, she worked at Humble Oil in Houston in the marketing department, where she met Glen B. Francis. The two married on June 21, 1968 at the First Methodist Church in Houston.

Rose and Glen and his two daughters lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 1974 to 1976 before returning to Houston. After retirement, the couple lived in Conroe, Texas and Franklin, Tennessee before moving to Cartersville in 1995 to care for Roses’ parents. John passed away in shortly thereafter and Glen passed away in 1999, leaving Rose and Virginia together in Carter,ville until Virginia’s death in 2005.

Rose was a very active member of Sam Jones United Methodist Church. There she led confirmation classes and taught adult bible study. She was also a silver master bridge player. Rose created community wherever she found herself and made many friends in Cartersville, particularly in her last home at the Villas of Pine Grove.
