The Cass girls basketball team opened the regular season with a dominant road win Friday at Walnut Grove.

Behind 21 points from preseason all-state pick Claire Davis, the sixth-ranked Colonels cruised to a 74-41 victory against the Warriors — a fellow Class 5A team.

Seven different Cass players scored in the first quarter alone. Davis, Londaisha Smith and Gracie Elkins each scored five points apiece in the opening period, allowing the Colonels to build a 27-16 lead.

Davis racked up nine points in the second period, as Cass strolled into the locker room with a comfortable 42-23 advantage. Another seven points from the junior in the third quarter saw the Colonels' lead grow to 34 (64-30) entering the final stanza.

Smith added six points in the third quarter, finishing with a double-double of 11 points and 10 steals. Makyera Baldwin posted nine of her 14 points in the second half, including a team-high five in the fourth quarter.

Cass will look to move to 2-0 Tuesday, when it faces Allatoona in its home opener.
