Mary Lee Phillips Turner Weaver, age 93, of Cartersville, Georgia, departed this life on Friday, April 23, 2021, at home in Cartersville, Georgia.
Born May 24, 1927, in Milton County, Georgia to the late Reynold Lee Phillips and Alma Vienna Hillhouse Phillips. Mary Lee moved with her family to Bartow County at an early age. She grew up in Atco and attended Atco School and was instrumental in getting the Atco school reunion started when she hosted the first couple events at her home. She worked at Goodyear Mills and retired from Cartersville Spinning in the early 1980s.
Mary Lee loved her family, children and grandkids. A gift she treasured for any occasion was to have all her children and grandchildren come together to visit her and connect with each family. She loved her home in Rowland Springs, where she, her husband Houston Turner and their five children relocated to 60 years ago. She enjoyed planting flowers and sharing them with others. She also enjoyed music and was known by many for her love of dancing in her later years. At the first strum of music, whether in a restaurant or even in church, she would be the first one on her feet, smiling and enjoying every beat.
Mary Lee was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Houston Turner and Harold “Pete” Weaver. Also preceded in death is her daughter, Sandra Turner Martin Gunn; grandsons, Ronald William “Chip” Turner and Zegan Mills; and brothers, Samuel (Thomas) Phillips and Ed Phillips.
Surviving Mrs. Weaver are her children, Patricia Turner (Boyd) McBurnett of Newnan, Ronnie (Beth) Turner of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Calvin (Janice) Turner, Anderea Turner (David) Williams, and Shelia Turner (Eddie) Mills all of Cartersville. Grandchildren include Meredith Turner (Denny) Koerner of Memphis, TN, Kevin (Alicia) Turner, Jacob Turner, Caitlin Turner (Shelby) Smith, Dave Williams, Hannah Williams (Eric) Mansfield, Asa (Taylor) Williams, Joshua (Alison) Martin, Stephanie Martin (Mitch) O’Neal, Matthew Evans and Tracey McBurnett of Los Angeles, California; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Phillips of Oxford, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Our family cannot express enough of our appreciation to the individuals who helped with our mom’s care over the last several years: Lynda Osmer, Wanda Carr and Trena Bell for loving her as much as we all do. Also, to Amedisys Hospice for the professional and compassionate care each of the medical staff provided.
A memorial service will be held at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville, Georgia, at four o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, April 25, 2021, with family members eulogizing the matriarch of their family. The family will receive friends two hours before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bartow County, P O Box 455; Cartersville, GA 30120 or your favorite charity in Mary Lee’s memory.
