John Parkman Fussell, loving husband, devoted father, caring son, brother, and everyone’s friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday May 2, 2023, at Piedmont Hospital in Cartersville, Georgia.

John was born on August 25th, 1978, at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia, to David and Barbara Fussell where he lived nearly all his life. John was loved by anyone he met and always made a positive impact on each person he knew with his charm and larger-than-life personality. He grew up regularly attending Second Avenue Baptist Church with his family and he was actively involved in the Youth Ministry where he ultimately made a profession of faith at a Centrifuge event one summer. John loved his family, the outdoors, sports and Auburn Football. John was a proud Rome Wolves graduate in 1997. He lettered in both football and baseball respectively thriving in the team environment. Post graduation, John went on to play collegiate baseball at Truett McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia, where he earned an associates degree.

After returning to Rome, John joined the Rome Fire Department to serve his hometown. John once again found himself thriving in the team environment and brotherly bond the department provided. He and his fellow firefighters mutually loved and cared for one another as if they are blood-kin. John worked hard to move up the Ladder and earned the rank of Captain during his 18 years of service with the department.

John met and eventually married the love of his life, Rebecca Wilson Fussell (a Rome area native) on May 17th, 2008. John’s love for her was evident to anyone who spent any length of time with them. John and Rebecca were blessed with two beautiful and talented children, Cameron (11) and Andrew (9), who were the pride of his life and brought him joy. He loved to laugh with them, and throw or kick a ball with both of them any chance he got.

Although John’s time on this earth was cut short, his memory will forever live on. John would want his memory to bring joy and laughter to your soul as you remember him and celebrate his life. John is survived by his wife Rebecca Wilson Fussell and his two children Cameron (11) and Andrew (9), his loving parents David and Barbara Fussell, his sister and family Anna Fussell Brown and Brad Brown, his aunt and uncle Weyman and Holly Fussell, his in-laws Dean and Debbie Wilson, his brother Dustin Wilson and wife Krista, seven (7) nieces and nephews, (4) cousins, friends, and a firefighter fraternity.

Romans 8:38

"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love."
