Mr. Herbert A. Pruitt Sr., age 83, of Rocky Face, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at Pruitt Health LaFayette.

He was born on March 28, 1937, in Ducktown, TN, to the late John Gilbert Pruitt and Myrtle May Weaver Pruitt. He was a member of Dewey Baptist Church of White. He was a veteran of United States Air Force and a retired plant manager from Mohawk Industries.

Mr. Pruitt's biggest joy in life was his family. He was married for 62 years to his wife, Shirley Louann Morris Pruitt. During those 62 years, they enjoyed nothing more than being with each other and their sweet family. Every moment possible, whether it was during their twice-a-year trips to Florida or just day-to-day, both Herbert and Shirley spent their time together with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They enjoyed a full life of love and adventure. Mr. Pruitt took advantage of every opportunity and, through his career in the carpet industry, was able to not only provide for his family but also allow them the chance to live and travel extensively across the United States. From Georgia to California, Mr. and Mrs. Pruitt leave behind many wonderful friends and lasting relationships they cultivated together. They shared all of this with their family.

Mr. Pruitt was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Louann Morris Pruitt on April 6, 2020; sisters, Margieree “Babe” Pruitt and Billy Sue Russell; brothers, Hugh Clifton Pruitt and Harold Pruitt.

Survivors include his children, Susan Smith and her husband Clipper,  Herbert Pruitt Jr. and his wife, Glenda, and Holly Ridley and her husband, Mark; grandchildren, Scott Adams, Matthew Adams, Clipper Smith, II, Chad Johnson, Herb Pruitt III, Bradley Christopher Pruitt, Tommy Ridley, Jack Ridley, John Ridley, and Grace Ridley; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Herman and Judy Pruitt; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19, the family will have a celebration of Herbert’s and Shirley’s life at a later date.
