Eddie W. Holcomb, Sr., age 76, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023.
Eddie was born November 14, 1946 in Cartersville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents J.D. and Ruth (Martin) Holcomb and his Mother-in-Law & Father-in-Law Jake and Ruthel (Eads) Blalock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beverly, his children, Eddie, Jr. and Brian (Tracy) Holcomb. His Grandchildren, who affectionately called him "I.A.", Clayton (Nicole) Holcomb, Hanna (Erik) Thompson, Kailea (Matt) Ivester, Kyler Holcomb, Daniel (Stephanie) Cottrell, and Emily McTyre. His Great-Grandchildren, Juniper Holcomb, Kylie & London Brown, Hunter and Addison Cottrell, Elijah Utech, Joseph and Ema Ivester. Also a special Niece & Nephew, Michelle and Tony Chapman.
Eddie grew up in Atco Mill Village and talked often about his years there. He attended Atco Elementary School, Cartersville Jr. High and began high school at Cartersville High School later transferring to Cass High School for his last two years. It was there that he met the love of his life, Beverly. They married on April 5, 1964. Eddie enjoyed being involved and had little idle time. He looked forward to the monthly dinners with his Cass Class of '64 friends and the luncheons with the retired Norfolk-Southern workers. He was actively involved with the Paulding County Shrine Club where he served for two years as President. Until his health failed him, you could see him many days wearing his Fez and carrying his red bucket to collect money for Shriners Hospital for Children at the corner of Macland Rd. and Bobo Rd.
Eddie retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway as a locomotive engineer after 20 years of service. He later worked part-time at Bellamy Funeral Home where he assisted with funeral services and did what he could to comfort families in their grief. He spent 25 years involved with USSSA and ISA Softball holding primarily adult softball tournaments. The teams looked forward to playing with him on the week-ends, especially his special tournaments, Polar Bear Classic, Shriners Tournament and his Stars and Stripes Tournament. In 2008 he was inducted into the ISA Hall of Fame as a Director.
Eddie was a faithful member of Peoples Baptist Church where he played drums with the church band on Sunday Morning. He was a member of Springville Masonic Lodge #153, Paulding County Shrine Club, Yaarab Temple, Yaarab Entertainers, Marietta Council No. 74, Constantine Commandery No. 26 and Dallas R.A.M. #142. Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family and will be truly missed.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 2:00pm from Tabernacle Baptist Church located at 3454 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway, Hiram, Georgia 30141 with Rev. Dennis Bellamy officiating.
Interment to follow at Paulding Memorial Gardens with Tony Chapman, Kenneth Hicks, Billy Deal, Ricky Darnell, Hank Heffner and Alan Brown serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Tabernacle Baptist Church located at 3454 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway, Hiram, Georgia 30141 on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and Friday, February 24, 2023 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Flowers will be accepted at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Thursday, February 23rd starting at 2:30pm or donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
