Chamber presents Ball Drop contest Monday

Posted
The Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the Cartersville Fire Department and NOTS Logistics to present the second annual Ball Drop.

“The Ball Drop is a unique and fun addition to our golf tournament that was introduced last year,” said the chamber’s CEO, Cindy Williams. “We received inspiration from our chamber peers around the state as part of our ongoing efforts to research what others are doing to enhance their events.

“Originally, we considered dropping the balls from a helicopter or unmanned aircraft, but discussions around logistics, led us to the idea of a fire truck. We are extremely grateful for the partnership with Cartersville Fire Department and this year’s sponsor, NOTS Logistics.”

The Ball Drop will be conducted in conjunction with the chamber’s golf tournament Monday at the Cartersville Country Club. The special event will be live-streamed at 9 a.m. on the chamber’s Facebook page.

“On the day of the Ball Drop, numbered ping pong balls that correspond with preassigned numbers of the purchasers will be dropped from the bucket of a Cartersville Fire Department truck over a hole [at] Cartersville Country Club,” Williams said. “If only one ball goes in the hole, the purchaser wins $3,000.

“If more than one ball goes in the hole, those balls are redropped. If no balls go in the hole, the closest to the hole wins.”

Costing $50 each, balls can be purchased on the chamber’s website, www.cartersvillechamber.com, through Monday at 8:30 a.m. They also can be obtained in-person at the Chamber of Commerce, 122 W. Main St. in Cartersville.

“Purchasing a ball in the Ball Drop is simply a matter of adding a little fun and excitement to our lives,” Williams said. “The general public is invited to participate. With a maximum of 200 balls sold, the odds of winning are very good.”

As Williams noted, the Ball Drop contest is geared toward chamber members and nonmembers. Participants also do not have to attend the festivities to win.

“NOTS Logistics is proud to be the Ball Drop sponsor at the 2020 Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament,” said Nick Barnett, assistant general manager of NOTS Logistics, which operates two offices in Bartow County. “Our (RWB) Red, White and Blue initiative banner will be proudly flying from the fire truck bucket.

“Our RWB Initiative effort is our way of giving back to first responders and military personnel who give of themselves to protect those around them. We cannot express our gratitude enough to these individuals. We are excited to be involved in a community event given the challenging year we’ve all experienced with the COVID pandemic.”
