On Friday, the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of the person who is believed to have killed an elderly Bartow County man during a home invasion on May 6.

Jason Monroe Eldridge, 42, of Cartersville, has been arrested for the murder of 86-year-old Calvin Lee.

According to the sheriff’s office, Eldridge attacked and assaulted Lee at Lee’s home on Floral Drive in Bartow County. Neighbors rushed to Lee’s defense and shot Eldridge, holding him at gunpoint before police arrived.

The neighbors who came to Lee’s defense were not arrested. Lee died later in an Atlanta-area hospital.

Eldridge was taken for treatment at an area hospital after being shot by Lee’s neighbors. According to a Bartow County Sheriff’s Office press release on Friday, Eldridge was released from his medical treatment on Thursday and booked into the Bartow County Jail on charges of murder, two counts of exploitation/intimidation of an elderly person, battery against a person over 65 years of age, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, criminal damage to property (2nd degree), criminal attempt to commit felony theft by taking, two counts of aggravated assault, criminal trespass and burglary.

Eldridge is being held with no bond, pending a Superior Court bond hearing.
