On January 11, 2022 Arleen McKee Shook went home to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was the only child and was preceded in the death by her parents, Joseph Frank McKee and Bobbie Watson McKee. Arleen loved family, life, friends, laughter and especially her 6 grandchildren and music. Most of all, and above all, she loved her church and her Lord.
Arleen was married to her best friend and love of her life for 52 years, Roger Shook. They are parents to two wonderful sons - Brian Shook and his wife, Laura and Todd Shook and his wife, Candy. Their grandchildren are Blake Shook, Chandler Shook, Haley Shook, Maggie Shook, Rylee Shook and Hudson Shook.
Arleen worked for the Cobb county school district for 21 years. Part time she was minister of music at Milford Baptist and was interim at Fortified Hills Baptist. She began her ministry at the age 15 when she started directing children’s choirs.
When she was 18 the church promoted her to music associate where she was over all the children and youth choirs. Her last church was Tabernacle Baptist, Cartersville. There she was a music associate and she was over preschool and children’s choirs and she was the director of the school of the arts for 17 years. She also was Sr. Adult Director.
Educated at Georgia State University and Shorter University she earned degrees in Music Education and Business Administration. At GSU she was the soprano soloist for the chorus. She sang in the Atlanta Symphony chorus. She was a member of the Cobb County prayer breakfast committee appointed by the Cobb County Commissioners. There she experienced several events of a lifetime. She sang for England’s Prime Minister, The Honorable Margaret Thatcher and The President of the United States, George Bush.
In her spare time, she was a writer for Lifeway Resources in Nashville, TN. She wrote several volumes of the children’s choir series, “Made for Praise”, resource to help many children’s choir workers and children. She directed Children’s choirs in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and New Mexico. She also was clinician and guest conductor for the Bartow County Elementary Children’s Honor Chorus.
Arleen was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Calhoun.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. John Barber and Rev. Don Startup officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. At Tabernacle Baptist Church 112 E. Church St., Cartersville, GA.
