Alfred R. McKenzie of Belair Hills in Augusta, GA, died on May 1, 2022 at Doctors’ Hospital. Born on September 9, 1936, in Cartersville, Georgia, McKenzie retired from the United States Army in the early ‘70s as a Sergeant First Class. He went on to have a nearly two decade career with the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company.
Sergeant McKenzie is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Dr. Robetta McKenzie, his daughter Janice McKenzie-Crayton, (Pernell Crayton), granddaughters, Carrie Rose of Atlanta, and Janell (Liberty) of Daytona Beach, as well as his older brother Joe McKenzie (Mary) of El Cerrito, CA. He was loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, mentees, extended family and friends.
McKenzie will be funeralized with full military honors at 3:00 p.m., Saturday May 7, 2022 at St Luke A.M.E Church, 130 Jones Street, Cartersville, Ga. There will also be a burial service at Oakhill Cemetery and repass at the church. Mack Eppinger & Sons of Cartersville, GA is coordinating the funeral arrangements, (770) 386-1313.
