Woodland rally falls short against River Ridge, 4-3

Woodland scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie but could not answer the run scored by River Ridge in the bottom of the frame and fell 4-3 in girls high school softball play Wednesday.

The two teams met at River Ridge in a makeup region game.

The Lady Wildcats trailed 3-0 in the sixth when Bailey Roberts opened the inning with a triple to right field. She later scored when Bridgett Hampton singled to left field, closing the score to 3-1.

Courtesy runner Audrey Morris came in for Hampton and advanced to second on a single to centerfield by Kereston Franklin.

Brooke Rogers sent Morris and Franklin home with a double to centerfield, closing the books on Woodland’s scoring with the game tied at 3-all.

River Ridge scored in the bottom of the inning after reaching base on an error, advancing to second with a sacrifice.

A single to right field sent the runner to third and she later scored on a single to centerfield, closing scoring at 4-3.

Woodland drew a base on balls in the top of the seventh with two outs but a ground out ended the contest.

River Ridge scored three runs in the third inning.

Rogers took the loss for Woodland, working six innings, giving up seven hits, four runs, two of them earned, striking out three and issuing one base on balls.

Woodland scored three runs on six hits with two bases on balls.

Rogers drove in two runs and Hampton drove in one for Woodland.

Franklin tallied two hits; Roberts, 1; and

Hampton, 1.

Woodland committed six errors in the contest.

The Lady Wildcats dropped to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in their region.

They next play on Tuesday when they visit Creekview.
