Although his claimed “magical powers” may have warned him about danger, one man did foresee his own arrest Tuesday.

A Cartersville police officer responded to 1338 E. Main St. at 2:38 p.m. in reference to a man saying he was being followed by a red truck driven by a man who pointed a gun at him on Interstate 75.

When the officer was out of his patrol vehicle, a green Honda pulled in behind his vehicle. The driver, later identified as Eric Gabriel, was reportedly waving his hands in the air.

The officer told Gabriel to park in a parking spot. According to the report, Gabriel, “looked confused, stared at me for approximately 30 second, pulled forward, then backed up two spaces passing two empty spots then parked.”

Gabriel told the officer he was afraid of the men allegedly chasing him because “they think I’m in their business.” When asked for details, Gabriel said he was at a Shell station in the county when a man in a car looked at him angrily.

When asked if anyone threatened him or pointed a firearm at him, Gabriel said they did not, but said he had “magical powers that tell him the future,” according to the report.

Two additional officers arrived on scene and one of the officers reportedly read over the “magical paperwork” Gabriel provided. Gabriel continued to “ramble about powers,” and his movements were reportedly lethargic and irregular, but officers did not note any dry mouth or bloodshot eyes.

Officers then saw that Gabriel’s pockets were bulging and were later given permission to search his pockets. When an officer reached inside Gabriel’s right front pocket, he found a pen and some form of container. Gabriel allegedly tensed up and later attempted to flee the area by running toward Main Street. An officer was able to take him to the ground.

No contraband was found on Gabriel, according to the report, and he “continued to speak of his magical protection and essentially apologized for running.”

Gabriel was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. His vehicle was towed from the scene and he was later transported to the Bartow County Jail.
