Guilty pleas entered in superior court

Bartow County Superior Court Judges Scott Smith and Carey Nelson took pleas and handed down sentences in criminal actions.

In Nelson’s courtroom, the following guilty pleas were entered:

• Christa Lowe Brewer pled to riot in a penal institution and two counts of obstruction of a law officer, receiving a total sentence of 10 years, to serve three incarcerated and the remainder on probation. Brewer must also complete an anger management course, pay a $1,000 fine, apologize to officers Joy Stanley and Dallas Watson.

• Christopher J. Buchanan entered guilty pleas to burglary in the second degree and theft by taking. He was sentenced to five years, to serve two years incarcerated and the remainder to serve on probation. He must pay a $1,000 fine and surcharges, and restitution to and having no contact with the victim.

• Robert Henry Buttrum Jr. pled guilty to felony escape, receiving a total sentence of 10 years, to serve incarcerated. The escape charge came about when Buttrum entered a guilty plea on March 20 to the criminal offense of false imprisonment, receiving a 10-year sentence with two to serve incarcerated. The court allowing Buttrum to remain out for a short period of time before beginning his incarceration and thereafter, failing to report to the Bartow County Jail to begin serving his incarceration time as required by the court).

• Dustin Chas Hendrix and Shannon Nicole Spruce pled to two counts of sale of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of Hydrocodone and possession of marijuana by ingestion, receiving a total sentence of 15 years to serve on probation, with a number of conditions of probation required of Hendrix and Spruce, including completing 240 hours of community service, a drug abuse evaluation and treatment program, paying a $5,000 fine plus surcharges, and testify truthfully if called upon to testify as a witness in any court hearing(s).

Co-defendants of Hendrix and Spruce, Corey Antoine Bonner and Jamie Brooke Land, who were charged in the same indictment for possession only of marijuana and methamphetamine, had all charges dismissed by the court after the state prosecutor submitted a petition of nolle prosequi (dismissal).

• Reba Jane Martin, indicted on two counts of theft by taking by a fiduciary from Trinity Baptist Church, receiving a total sentence of 20 years to serve on probation. Martin must pay restitution in the amount of $20,600.71 to the victim, with $10,500 to be paid immediately, the remaining restitution to be paid within five years of Aug. 5, writing a letter of apology to the victim, completing 40 hours of community service and not serving in the position of a fiduciary.

In Smith’s courtroom, the following guilty pleas were entered:

• Timothy M. Vanhoose entered a guilty plea in his criminal case, receiving a total sentence of 20 years, to serve years incarcerated and the remainder to serve on probation. Vanhoose must complete 200 hours of community service and not drive a motor vehicle.
