On Friday at 6:58 p.m., a Bartow County Sheriff’s deputy responded to Wal-Mart, 101 Market Place Blvd. in Cartersville, in reference to shoplifting in progress, later determined to be battery and theft by shoplifting.

Prior to his arrival, dispatch advised the complainant called and stated when they confronted the suspected shoplifter in the parking lot, he struck a fellow employee and fled across Highway 20 into a wooded area.

The female employee, who was allegedly struck, and the complainant stated they observed a black male wearing an orange shirt conceal an item on camera, then walk out of the garden center doors toward the parking lot. According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s incident report, they pursued him and once in the parking lot, they asked him about the merchandise, and he swung and hit her in the right side of her face and eye and then fled.

The complainant also stated the security cameras revealed a black male was observed concealing an item, and once he was confronted, he swung, hit the employee and then fled. A manager coming into work also observed the altercation in the parking lot.

The video footage showed the suspect conceal a second item but that item was unknown. The total known amount of the theft was $29.54. The complainant provided the deputy with two still shot photos of the suspect, and further stated they would retain all video evidence.

Arrest made at CMC

Adam Green was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct on Friday at 1:34 p.m. at the Cartersville Medical Center. Upon arrival, a Bartow County Sheriff’s deputy met with the complainant who advised Green entered into a secure area — labor and delivery — of the hospital and when confronted he became irate, then combative.

According to the BCSO incident report, after a short struggle the complainant restrained Green until the deputy’s arrival. The complainant further advised, Green stated he was there to “visit his wife,” who was not a patient at that location.

The complainant already had served Green with a criminal trespass warning from the hospital that he refused to sign. Green was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartow County Jail without incident.
