Camden McGill (Cartersville/Woodland High School) went 2 for 4, helping GHC (17-32, 10-21) to a 6-2 victory over Gordon State College (28-22, 21-11) Saturday in game one of the doubleheader at Barnesville.

Albert Harless (Dallas/South Paulding HS) worked out of trouble in the sixth inning for the Chargers. He pitched a complete game and allowed two earned runs on only four hits while striking out four.

Kane Keith was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just three innings, walked three, struck out five and allowed five runs.

The Chargers never surrendered the lead after the four-run second inning, highlighted by Chap Lindstrom’s (Cumming, Central Forsyth HS) double.

Two runs in the bottom of the sixth helped Gordon State College close its deficit to 5-2. A two-run double by Garry Gwaltney fueled Gordon State College’s comeback. The Highlanders’ threat came to an end when Harless got Zane Conlon to fly out.

“Albert was on point today, “ Chargers skipper Mike Marra said. “He looked like an ace today. He kept hitters off balance, attacked the strike zone with all his pitches, just a masterful job today.”

The Chargers conclude their inaugural season this week with a four-games series with the Knights of West Georgia Technical College.

GHC travels to Douglas County on Tuesday for a 6:05 p.m. game. The team will then return home for the weekend series with a 2 p.m. start on Friday at East Cobb and a Saturday doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m. at Woodland High.
