An argument between former roommates over a power bill resulted in one man being shot.

Deputies were dispatched to Mohawk Drive and Glade Road at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in reference to reports of shots fired. Witnesses told the deputies that a man with a white beard and glasses drove down Mohawk Drive at a high rate of speed. The man, later identified as Stanley Brown of 4689 Buckhorn Trail, stopped in front of the victim and shot him in the arm. One of the witnesses identified the van as Brown’s.

When questioned, Brown said he had stopped to try to collect a $400 debt from the victim, but the victim struck him on the left side of his head with a broken beer bottle. Brown said he then shot the victim.

Deputies couldn’t find any redness, bleeding or glass residue on Brown’s head, so Brown was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats or acts under the Family Violence Act; possession of a firearm or knife while trying to commit crimes; reckless conduct (misdemeanor); discharging a firearm within 50 yards of a roadway; and second-degree cruelty to children.

Argument over lights lands one in jail

A domestic argument over a bedroom light left on resulted in a night in jail for the complainant.

A Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to 428 Cassville Road, Apt. D, Wednesday morning to answer a complaint about a domestic dispute. The complainant, Dejanai Reynolds, said when she woke up her live-in boyfriend was angry because she had left a light on.

She said her boyfriend stood up and looked like he was going to choke her, so she grabbed him by the shirt and pushed and pulled him out of anger. When the boyfriend refused to give Reynolds her cellphone, she left the residence and returned later to find her phone on the refrigerator. The deputy met with the boyfriend who said he had never taken her phone and Reynolds had torn his shirt during the altercation.

Due to the physical evidence against her, Reynolds was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and simple battery under the Family Violence Act.
