Linda C. Parnes, 66, of Cartersville, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.
Born on March 20, 1947, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Carl E. Carlson and the late Ruth E. Carlson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Irwin Parnes.
Linda was a member of Cross Point Church in Cartersville. She was a devoted and loving mother; her daughter, Bianca’s best friend and “partner in crime,” she was also fiercely loyal to her friends. Linda was a founding member of the Bartow County Humane Society, which later became known as The Etowah Valley Humane Society; she began working from the “female” side of Bartow County Animal Control. She worked tirelessly and gave untold resources to save as many animals as possible. Oftentimes she would provide them with homes at her residence. Linda set a sterling example of what advocacy is all about. She was an inspiration and mentor to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be missed on Earth but welcomed into Heaven, because she “walked the walk.”
Survivors include her daughter, Bianca S. Parnes; her sister, Patricia Garrard; her brother, Larry Carlson; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Georgia National Cemetery with the Rev. James Griffin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Etowah Valley Humane Society, 36 Ladd’s Mountain Road, Cartersville, GA 30120.
