A two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon that closed U.S. Highway 411 killed one person.

Georgia State Patrol Public Information Officer Gordy Wright said troopers were called just before 2 p.m.

“Initial indication is that a Volkswagen was traveling west on U.S. 411 while a Chevrolet Blazer was attempting to cross U.S. 411 from Martin Road to Arnold Road,” Wright said via email. “The Blazer struck the VW in the driver’s side, fatally injuring the VW driver.”

The deceased was identified as Cassidy Alexis Gardner, 18, of Summerville.

The driver of the Blazer was identified as Joseph Lee Wooten, 31, from Adairsville. He was treated and released from Cartersville Medical Center.

Wooten was booked into the Bartow County Jail and charged with first degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, failure to yield the right of way and safety belt violation.
