Facing low humidity and gusting winds, Bartow County Fire Department battled more than just fires Tuesday.

In the frigid temperatures Tuesday evening, four crews from BCFD gathered hose, completing overhaul and cleanup of an industrial building blaze in White.

“The wind is a major factor today, major factor,” Battalion Chief David Levey said.

The 5,000-square-foot storage building at L&L Industries, 500 Industrial Drive, White, was consumed when firefighters arrived just before 4 p.m.

“When they arrived on scene, the building was fully engulfed. It was a wind-driven fire; we had 30 mph winds,” Levey said. “We had two main priorities at that time — we went ahead and wrote off the building. We’re not worried about it. We worried about the building that was about 10 feet away, which is about a 10,000-square-foot industrial building beside it. We also had a fast-moving woods fire moving toward some mobile homes on East Rocky Street over there.”

Stations 1, 2, 5 and 13 responded, working two hours to get the fire under control and trucks returning to service about 9:30 p.m.

A cause is not determined, and Levey said a location of origin inside the building, which housed paints and solvents, could not be determined Tuesday evening.

In addition to the White fire, BCFD units battled blazes that destroyed other buildings.

About 3:30 a.m. crews were called to Creek Drive in Acworth where an electrical fire left a family displaced.

Levey said the residents were home when the blaze began and were able to evacuate safely.

The doublewide mobile home was a total loss.

Another structure was lost in a fire Tuesday morning in Acworth.

An outbuilding and the remains of a house that burned about two years ago were deemed a total loss.

“We are looking at vagrants as far as the cause of that,” Levey said.

In Kingston, crews from BCFD and Georgia Forestry also extinguished a 3-acre grass-woods fire on Reynolds Bridge Road.
