A man shot himself in the leg Tuesday morning when he was playing with a gun he thought was fake.
According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to Cartersville Medical Center on a call involving a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At CMC, the man said he had accidentally shot himself in the leg and his girlfriend said she drove him to the hospital after dropping her son off at school.
The man said he met up with a friend and the two of them went to another man’s residence. The man said he could not remember the address or the name of the person, but he believed it was possibly in Red Top Estates.
While at the residence, the man said he noticed what looked like a cap gun on the table and he began to “mess with it,” according to the report. The other two people said it was real, but the man did not believe them. The man then accidentally shot himself in the leg.
According to the report, the man thought it did not hurt that bad, so he did not want to go to the hospital immediately. He also said he was intoxicated at the time.
The deputy took a photo of the wound, which recorded an entry wound on the front of the right thigh and an exit wound on the back.
Since the man could provide no address of the incident location, no follow-up was conducted at the scene.
