On Nov. 9, Bartow County residents will have the opportunity to browse through homemade arts and crafts during the Friends of the Bartow-Cartersville Library’s annual Indoor Arts and Crafts Fair. While the event provides an opportunity for those in attendance to purchase gifts and decorations for the holidays, it also allows patrons to contribute to the local library’ funding system, says Friends President Karen Barnhart.

“We have 58 vendors, so it’s even larger than last year and we have everything from handmade jewelry to soaps, woodcrafting, artists, fiber artists, handmade gourd and wreaths,” Barnhart said.

She said the event should bode well for both vendors and participants.

“These are handmade crafts by local artisans, so not only do you get to find something that is unique, you get to support the local arts here and it allows our vendors the opportunity to show their stuff when they might not have had another venue to do so,” Barnhart said.

While the Friends’ quarterly used book sale is a major contributor to the organization, Barnhart said, the growing success of the arts and crafts fair also is helping Friends meet their mission.

“We started the craft fair over at the library and we outgrew that facility and moved over the civic center because it’s so much larger,” Barnhart said. “This year, so far, from booth rental fees, and not everybody has paid yet, we’ve raised $1,500 that goes directly back to the library for books and programming, so we’re really excited about that.

“Our mission is to support the Bartow County Library System through attending programming, providing funds for programming and fundraising, and just to support the library in general. We are very dynamic as an organization, but our library system is incredibly dynamic with programs and classes, things that are done at little or no cost to the patrons.”

In October, the organization was able to donate a $10,000 check to the BCLS.

The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cartersville Civic Center, 435 W. Main St. For questions, call Barnhart at 770-382-4779.
