Professional sign flipper Julian Lee Falkenstein, often seen plying his trade on local roadsides, was arrested Tuesday morning.

According to the Cartersville Police Department, an officer was called to Cartersville Medical Center late Monday night in reference to a sexual assault that had occurred. The victim said Falkenstein had physically harmed her during a party Sunday.

The victim said she was at Falkenstein’s home late Sunday night, drinking, when she became sick in a bathroom. A witness said she helped the victim to an upstairs bedroom so she could rest. The witness then returned to the party. At a later time, Falkenstein reportedly asked where the victim had gone and was told she was drunk and in the upstairs bedroom. Falkenstein then said he was going to go check on her. The witness said approximately 15 to 20 minutes passed and Falkenstein had not returned downstairs, so she went up to look for him.

The witness said she entered the bedroom and reportedly saw Falkenstein wearing only his underwear as he stood over the victim. Falkenstein allegedly became irate and began to yell at the witness, telling her to get out and go back downstairs. The witness said she was not going to leave her friend alone with him.

According to the incident report, Falkenstein allegedly pushed the witness to the ground when she refused to leave. At this point the victim reportedly woke up and saw Falkenstein on top of the winess. The victim then began to push and fight with Falkenstein in an attempt to get him away from the witness. Both the victim and witness said Falkenstein began to allegedly punch the victim in the back of the head and throw her around the room.

The witness said she ran outside to make a phone call so someone could pick them up. When she attempted to go back inside, Falkenstein had locked her out of the residence.

The victim said Falkenstein locked her in the bathroom, while the witness reportedly grabbed some rocks on the ground and knocked out the window. Falkenstein then went outside and began to curse the witness out, allowing the witness to run upstairs and get the victim out of the locked bathroom. Both the witness and victim ran back outside, where a friend picked them up and dropped them off at the victim’s mother’s home.

When asked, the mother said she was woken up at approximately 5 a.m. Monday by her daughter. The mother said she took both her daughter and the witness back to Falkenstein’s residence to figure out what had happened. Falkenstein reportedly became irate and threw a metal object at the mother, but only after allegedly pushing the victim down.

The mother then called police. She also stated she needed to take care of some things, which is why they did not immediately go to the hospital.

Falkenstein was arrested at his residence and charged with battery, false imprisonment and furnishing of an alcoholic beverage to minors.
