Qualifying ends for Senate District 14

Qualifying has ended for the state Senate District 14 special election.

The following candidates have qualified to run for the seat, which represents part of Bartow, Cherokee and Cobb counties:

• Nicole Ebbeskotte, 42, of Woodstock, qualified Tuesday and identified as a Republican.

• Matt Laughridge, 25, of Cartersville, qualified Wednesday and identified as a Republican.

• Christopher G. Nesmith, 42, of Adairsville, qualified Wednesday and identified as a Democrat.

• Dwight Pullen, 53, of Canton, qualified Monday and identified as a Republican.

• Dean Sheridan, 51, of Woodstock, qualified Tuesday and identified as a Republican.

• Bruce Thompson, 48, of White, qualified Wednesday and identified as a Republican.

The special election was called after Barry Loudermilk resigned from Senate District 14 in order to run for Phil Gingrey’s House of Representatives seat. Gingrey has announced he will run for the U.S. Senate seat Saxby Chambliss will vacate after he retires.
