While the Bartow County School System has made efforts to build new schools and expand its technology and infrastructure, structural improvements to existing facilities remain on the horizon, says Pankaj Daiya, director of construction and maintenance.

“[We’re hoping] any traffic problems we have now at [Hamilton Crossing Elementary School] will be alleviated,” Daiya said during Monday’s Bartow County Board of Education work session, in reference to improving the school’s parking lot and drop-off/pickup area.

In addition, the school will see 10 new classrooms as well as an additional playground.

“At [White Elementary School] we are constructing a new media center because [the current] media center is not large enough for [the school’s needs],” Daiya said, adding the school also will be adding additional classrooms.

Although a beginning and end date for the construction was not available at press time, Superintendent John Harper commented, “I believe we can do the construction safely with students in the building.”

The projects will be paid for through Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds.

In other school construction news, Daiya said South Central Middle School’s new band room is expected to open in the middle of October.
