Woodland finished fourth out of the 24 teams competing in the event.
“These girls made a major commitment to running and logging miles this summer and all their hard work was evident today,” coach Matthew Landolt said after the event. “Last year, we ended our season in a disappointing seventh-place finish at the region meet (only the top 4 teams go to the state championship), and our girls knew we could do better.”
The Wildcats were led on the girls side by Katie Harris, who finished in 17th place with a time of 21:32.00. Fellow senior Catie Cameron finished three spots behind Harris with a time of 21:44.74. Junior Mallory Warren finished 22nd with a time of 21:53.05. Kate Barnes also recorded a good time at 23:32.88. Sophomore Emily Greulich finished in 53rd with a time of 23:02.11.
The boys’ top time came from James Clark, who came in 55th with a time 18:54.15. Bryce Marratta came in 70th with a time of 19:02.51.
Woodland will be hosting a 5K known as the “Run at the Rock” on Sept. 7 at Woodland High School. Excel Christian Academy also will be competing in the event.
The Colonels also had a good start to their season.
Jaison Morning finished in sixth place with a time of 17:21.35 for the boys team. Jordan Morning finished in 35th place running a time of 18:26.86. For the girls, Jana Morning finished in 12th place with a time of 21:00.40. Savannah Hardin also came in with a top-40 time.
