It is becoming apparent that no matter what state Cass High School’s Sam Ayers plays baseball in, he is going to hit.

Ayers is now 6-for-12 in the four games he has played for Team Georgia at the ongoing Heartland Baseball Classic in Norman, Okla., as his squad is now 4-2 and tied for second heading into the elimination round.

“He’s doing a great job at the plate and really hitting well,” Ayers’ former coach at Cass and current Team Georgia coach Todd Eubanks said. “He’s representing the county of Bartow and Cass High School very well and helping us win.”

Team Georgia won both of its games Thursday, defeating Arkansas by a score of 6-4 and Oklahoma, 7-5. Ayers had the go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning against Arkansas in the first game of the day. The double was one of two hits he had in four hits during the game.

Ayers would follow that performance with a 1-for-3 showing in the nightcap to hand Oklahoma its first loss of the tournament.

Team Georgia now can only wait to see who their next opponent will be in the elimination round.
