Mrs. Hazel M. Cothran, 83, widower of the late Rev. Sam Cothran, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Townsend Park Health and Rehab.

Born Dec. 31, 1929, in Calhoun, she was the daughter of the late Earnest “Pat” Gray and the late Bessie Lee Black Gray. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Gray; her great-grandchildren, Leah Chastain and Robert Hester.

She retired from Shaw Industries and was a member of the Church of the Covenant. Hazel loved her church and enjoyed singing, quilting, gardening and canning her vegetables.

Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Smith and Dale Hampton of Cartersville; her son, Billy and Paula Cothran of Rockmart; her brothers, Claude “Ernie” Gray, Max D. and Betty Gray, Clinton “Bodie” and Ann Gray, and Wendell and Debra Gray, all of Cartersville; her sisters, Carolyn and Henry Law of Central, S.C., Joyce and Nathan Baker and Glenda and Terry Martin — all of Cartersville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. Ronnie Cline and the Rev. Ronnie Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Cothran, Andrew Lee, Clayton Hampton, Alex Chastain, Chris Cowart and Virgil Gentry. John Cothran, Joseph Edwards, Caleb Chastain, David Hester, Conner Cowart and Patrick Lee will serve as honorary pallbearers.
