A Kennesaw man with a checkered past is in custody after White police say he was behind marijuana plants and stolen credit cards found at a home in the city limits.

White Police Chief David King said Charles Edmondson, 27, of Marietta, was behind the operation found on Richards Road last weekend.

Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Friday morning apprehended Edmondson back at the original location. According to the report, a deputy located a small plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine.

Residents of the home had called White police May 11 about a theft, King said. Edmondson had been visiting the house off and on for two months, staying for days at a time.

When police arrived Saturday, they located 39 marijuana plants, roughly 6 weeks old, and 15 stolen credit cards. King said the pot had a street value of about $100,000 — plants mature in eight to 10 weeks.

Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force Commander Capt. Mark Mayton said, depending on the environmental conditions, a marijuana plant will mature in three to four months and can grow as tall as 10 feet. The street value, which is based on the grade of marijuana, will vary from a low of $1,500 per plant up to $6,500.

According to the chief, Edmondson had been growing the marijuana on-site and had not transported the plants.

King said the 15 stolen credit cards were from the White area and are believed to have been taken in a series of automobile break-ins.

No one else has been arrested in connection with the operation, although the investigation is ongoing.

The city of White handled the case, taking 45 felony warrants out for Edmondson, who also was wanted on other charges. Edmondson was arrested in March 2008 by BCSO for theft by taking. In October 2005, he was arrested by BCSO and charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
