Edward Jones Financial Advisor Olen Suire recently received the Edward Jones Trust Company Community Service Impact Award, based on his fundraising efforts with the Bartow Education Foundation and the Tranquility House. Chosen out of 350 advisors from across the nation, Suire said both of the charities will receive $5,000 from Edward Jones.

Suire said he was honored to receive the award, which will benefit causes he said he holds close to his heart.

“Both are wonderful causes. The Bartow Education Foundation has directly improved what teachers can do inside the classroom, it directly impacts all the children in the county school system,” Suire said. “... There’s a lot of women with children out there being abused and have nowhere to go and having that Tranquility House as a safe haven is a beautiful thing.”

The Teacher Grant program has existed since 1996. Bartow teachers who are seeking additional classroom funding can apply for a grant up to $500 through the foundation. A three-person panel consisting of former educators from the elementary, middle and high school levels will evaluate the request and, if approved, the teacher will receive the funding to be used toward classroom improvement based upon the request.

Through its donors, the foundation’s Teacher Grant program has been able to provide more than $1 million in grants to teachers across Bartow County.

Formed in 1985, the domestic violence center and its shelter meets the needs of women and their children by providing a safe environment for them to temporarily stay and work toward future goals like securing housing, education or a job, if needed. Typically, the individuals reside at the shelter for 30 to 60 days, during which a support group, legal advocacy and community resources are at their disposal.

While men who are victims of domestic violence are unable to reside at Tranquility House, they are provided with other shelter options.

According to a press release, “The award recognizes the successful financial advisor whose vision, dedication and acts of volunteerism make a difference in the lives of others for the long term.”

Edward Jones Managing Partner Jim Weddle and Edward Jones Trust Company President Jeff Stuerman presented Suire with the award at the firm’s 2013 Managing Partner’s Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz. John Hardiman, of Edward Jones, said he was impressed with Suire’s ability to be a contributing member of his community while also building a successful business.

“Edward Jones is about building relationships … relationships with clients and within our communities,” Hardiman said in a press release. “All of our branch teams get involved in their communities. But some financial advisors, like Olen, take community involvement to an even higher level.”

Edward Jones provides financial services for individual investors in the United States and, through its affiliate, in Canada.
