Currently advertised on a rack card, the initiative features lodging discounts, providing details on each facility and surrounding attractions. While Sage Cottage Inn’s 10 percent discount and Barnsley Gardens Resort’s offering of reserving one night Sunday through Thursday and staying the consecutive evening for free expire May 31, the remaining venues — Etowah Heritage Bed & Breakfast, Lake Allatoona Inn Bed & Breakfast, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Hampton Inn and Hilton Garden Inn & Suites — will supply discounts of varying amounts through July 31.
“Girlfriend Getaway is an opportunity for ladies from within the city and the county and throughout the state and states abroad to come to Cartersville and Bartow County to relax, shop, indulge, dine and explore,” said Louise Young Harris, group tours coordinator for the local CVB. “In fact, we’re inviting them to kick up their heels and head on over our way and just have a great time.
“... It is a very exciting program and other cities throughout the state of Georgia [are] doing this and other states as well, and this has been very productive in their areas. And as we began to look and market and see what was going on, it was brought to our attention that we needed to do a Girlfriend Getaway. ... This is a brand new arm or branch that we’re extending from what we already do in Cartersville and Bartow County.”
As the CVB promotes Girlfriend Getaway, its Deputy Director Regina Wheeler hopes this initiative and future ones like it will spur repeat visitation.
“The overall goal, obviously, just meets with our purpose of economic development through bringing people in for overnight stays and encouraging repeat trips,” Wheeler said. “The nature of a girlfriend getaway [is] lots of friends that get together, they like to repeat things. [If] they have a good time, they like to come back. And we have a lot of locations for them to stay, from bed and breakfast stays to places on the lake [and], of course, Barnsley Gardens. [So they can pair] those outings with shopping.
“This is a specifically targeted market, ideally, to women. ... On Facebook, we are reaching about 7,410 people weekly and the primary demographic of that is the north metro Atlanta area and 74 percent of those are female. So targeting specifically promotions in Chattanooga but also others that are in our area, we felt like this one would be a good first promotion to roll out. There will be others. They will always include lodging discounts but will feature different markets, [which could include a] guys golfing weekend or something like that.”
