In a called meeting Thursday, the Emerson City Council unanimously approved construction plans for the realignment of Ga. Highway 293 at LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center in southern Bartow County. Construction on the LakePoint complex couldn’t begin until the highway was shifted into the LakePoint project, said Todd Heath, assistant to Emerson City Manager Kevin McBurnett.

“There were a few engineering details that didn’t meet our codes, but they were very minor things and were easily fixed,” Heath said. “The road project is slated to take eight to 10 months once it gets rolling in probably two or three weeks, so it’s about a year away from completion.”

The project is financed with economic development funds from the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Bartow County Department of Transportation.
