Woodland made short work of Villa Rica on Tuesday and continued on track to appear in the state tennis playoffs.

The Wildcats swept Villa Rica in singles and doubles play.

Kevin Tant, Woodland coach, was pleased with the result and his team’s play this season.

“On the march to the region championships next week, we've picked up a vital win against Villa Rica today,” Tant said Tuesday, “and have only Rome left to play.

“Our team is carrying its best record in school history and we continue to push ourselves to improve with each match. When we travel to Rome tomorrow, we don't plan on leaving anything on the courts.”

In singles play, Dustin Dodson defeated Hunter Smith 6-1, 6-0; Brandon Rutledge beat Trey Farmer, 6-0, 6-2, and Griffin Hale overpowered Luke Furr, 6-0, 6-1.

At the doubles line, James Lester and Dominick Kim defeated Dylan O’Kelley and Zac Goss, 6-3, 6-3, and Grayson Roberts and Grant Barker defeated Adam Pelous and Forcruie Fluker.

Excel 3, Lady Tigers 2

Excel Christian Academy split in tennis play against Darlington School on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles decisioned Darlington, 3-2, in girls high school tennis play.

Moriah Hibbard fell 1-6, 3-6; Miriam Hibbard won 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 in the tiebreaker; Calloway Ford lost 2-6, 0-6;

In No. 1 doubles play, Caroline Moore and Taylor Vaughan won 6-2, 6-1. In No. 2 doubles play, Abby Keefe and Tessa Thornbrough won 7-5, 2-6, 11-9 in the tiebreaker.

The boys lost 5-0.
