Augusta is where the Eagles (26-2) will play the Aquinas Fighting Irish in the second round of the Class A private school state playoffs.
Since tip off is not until 6 p.m., the Eagles should complete their journey around 4 p.m.
“I’ll take a three-hour bus ride over staying at home during this part of the season any time,” said Excel coach Jon-Michael Nickerson, as he drove back in the school’s van from Gainesville after picking up more game film.
At this point in the season, the Eagles’ run in the state playoffs continues after defeating Holy Innocents, 57-49, Saturday. Aquinas (20-8) defeated Lakeview Academy, 58-49, that same night in its state playoff opener. The Fighting Irish have won eight straight after losing to Laney in late January.
