A Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to 11 Gum Springs Lane, Rydal, after an elderly woman was allegedly assaulted by her nephew, when she refused to drive him to the tanning salon.

Upon arrival, the deputy met with Bartow County fire personnel who said the victim had already been transported to the hospital for treatment. The deputy was then directed to the incident location where he met with suspect, Charles Wesley Guyton.

Guyton explained that he and his aunt were in a verbal argument after she refused to take him to the tanning salon. According to the report, she said, “Well if you keep laying in the tanning bed, before long your face is going to fall off.”

After hearing the comment, Guyton allegedly struck his aunt in the face. He told the deputy he knew what he did was wrong, but she should have known the comment would provoke him.

Several drops of blood were reportedly found inside the house where the incident took place.

The deputy relocated to Redmond Regional Hospital Emergency Room where he met with the victim who, according to the report, was using a suction device every few seconds to remove blood from her mouth. Her jaw was reportedly out of place and her face was bruised.

After speaking with the attending physician, the deputy learned the victim’s lower jaw had been broken in two places.

Guyton was arrested and charged with aggravated battery under the Family Violence Act.
