The Lake Allatoona Association is scheduled to hold a public input meeting Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at the Marietta Marine, 6986 Bells Ferry Road, Canton. LAA board members will be providing updates on the association’s activities, news relating to the lake and seeking public input on lake issues.

In a press release, the LAA said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced plans to update the Water Control Manual for Lake Allatoona sometime this year. The manual governs the lake’s water management, which in turn affects water supply, sediment runoff, ramp access and recreation.

However, LAA Chairman Sean Nicholl said the organization did not yet know what the corps was planning for the lake.

“We’re not sure, obviously, what they’re going to do. I think we have to wait and see what and how they do revise it,” Nicholl said of the manual. “We understand they plan to hold two public meetings and hold the proposal out for public comment, so we’ll have a chance to see it like everyone else.”

The revised manual, Nicholl believed, should be released sometime in March.

Nicholl asked that anyone interested in Lake Allatoona attend Sunday’s meeting, as the LAA was interested in hearing what residents living on the lake, and those using the lake for recreation, were concerned about.

“The idea is simply to give everyone an update on what we do know. ... So we’re going to tell folks what we do know and we’re going to give them an opportunity to say what they think about all this. So it’s really those two things. We’re going to bring everybody up to speed as best we can,” he said.

Nicholl added there were plans to create a newsletter and mailing list so the LAA could keep the public up to date on its activities, which include holding the Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup and working for a clean, safe and protected lake.
