Woodland kicked off its high school baseball season with an offensive explosion as the Wildcats defeated Pepperell, 7-2, in a non-region contest.

Woodland scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead but the Dragons answered in the second with a run to tie the game up.

The Wildcats sent three runners across home plate in the third inning, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to surge to a 7-1 lead.

The Dragons scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning, to close to 7-2.

Coach Corey Gochee said he is always glad to pick up a win early in the season.

“I told our team it’s good to get that first one out of the way and we need now to keep building on it,” he said.

He said Woodland did some good things against Pepperell.
