“Unfortunately, our subdivision, like others, have needed to call upon the first responders for a multiple of reasons,” said Pat Moskwa, president of The Cliffs HOA. “By the time everything is over, the first responders are gone and the people who have been helped don’t get a chance to say thank you. So, we’re attempting to create that opportunity.”
First responders are the first to arrive on scene when an emergency arises. Firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel fall under this category and will be recognized at the reception.
“Truly, the first responders demonstrate kindness to our residents daily and we wanted to create an opportunity for the residents to express their appreciation and gratitude to our first responders,” Moskwa said. “The idea came about at The Cliffs HOA officers’ meeting and has just blossomed from there. It was presented to the Euharlee City Council and they enthusiastically approved to proclaim Feb. 17 First Responders Appreciation Day. This particular day was chosen because Feb. 17 is National Random Acts of Kindness Day.”
Moskwa asks that you bring a covered dish or snack to share but, above all, to bring a greatful heart. She says the most important aspect of the reception is to express appreciation for the firefighters, police officers and EMS, as well as their families, whose loved ones put their lives on the line to protect the community.
Moskwa quoted Cynthia Ozick, an American short story writer, novelist and essayist, saying, “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.”
