Cartersville took advantage of two free kicks to defeat visiting Cherokee County 2-0 in a rain-shortened game Tuesday.

Ross Pafley scored in the 20th minute and Harlan Ritcher in the 30th minute of the first half in the Canes opening round match of the season.

Players on both teams quickly exited the playing field when lightning struck one minute into the second half.

Their game was officially called after two more lightning strikes.

Cartersville goes after its second straight win Friday when it travels to Cass to take on the Colonels.
