The Lady Purple Hurricanes improved to 17-7, 12-2 in Region 5-AAA with the victory, the team’s fifth win in a row and one that wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the region. Cartersville’s only losses in the region were to Sonoraville.
It was the defensive skills of Cartersville that stood out against the Lady Warriors on Monday. The Lady Canes held Gordon Central scoreless in the second quarter.
Cartersville had taken a 12-11 lead after a full quarter of play and then went on a 9-0 run that allowed the home team to take a comfortable halftime tead at 21-11.
In the third quarter, Cartersville outscored Gordon Cdntral 16-11 to pull out to a 37-22 scoring margin. The home team was outscored 13-6 in the final period.
Coach Cindy Moore, who assumed the reins to the program after former coach Donna Enis resigned the job and returned to her Pickens County home to coach, said she is pleased the Lady Canes are in position to reach their goal of competing in the state playoffs.
