“We’re offering business programs designed for aspiring entrepreneurs who are wanting to start their business, but they will also be beneficial to current business owners looking to grow or re-evaluate their marketing or business plan,” Tuck said. “And we do currently have a limited number of partial scholarships still available provided by a grant we received from Wells Fargo.”
The SBDC, a partnership between the University of Georgia and the U.S. Small Business Association, operates offices across the state. Business consultants will lead seminars beginning later this month running each Tuesday for the following four weeks.
On Tuesday, Jan. 22, business consultants from the Rome SBDC will present information designed to help entrepreneurs get their business off the ground.
“The first class is Starting a Business. For someone looking to start a business, this class is a crucial overview of all the things you need to consider, such as how to do your market research, legal structures, estimating startup costs and things like that. With that program you get a detailed business startup workbook and some useful handouts,” Tuck said. “Starting a Business is a three-hour seminar; the rest will be 2 1/2 hours. Our business consultants will also be available after each session to meet one-on-one with business owners to answer any specific questions and they can take part of our free consulting program.”
On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the seminar topic will be Marketing Your Small Business, an overview of how to develop a marketing plan to attract and retain customers. The third session will cover Writing a Business Plan, a tool Tuck emphasized for both prospective entrepreneurs and seasoned business owners. Lastly, SBDC consultants will discuss Finding Money For Your Small Business, taking participant through the process of finding finance options and successfully applying for capital.
Each program begins at 9 a.m. at the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce in the Anheuser-Busch Community Room. Individual classes cost $69, the Startup Success Series includes all four sessions for $199 or the final three programs are packaged for $149 for the Back to Business Basics.
