DTF Commander Capt. Mark Mayton said in a press release that the task force was contacted by the CPD officers after an individual responding to a Craigslist ad purchased a handgun from a person in Cartersville. Mayton said after purchasing the handgun, the buyer contacted law enforcement to check the gun out only to find the gun had been stolen in Bartow County.
According to the release, the buyer informed agents that during the purchase of the handgun the suspect had told him he also had a “fully automatic” Panther Arms AR-15 for sale. Mayton said task force agents and officers then conducted a sting operation to purchase the automatic weapon. As a result, the weapon was seized and a search warrant was executed at 112 N. Erwin St.
During the operation, agents seized two stolen firearms, methamphetamine and cash. Upon further investigation, agents discovered both of the stolen firearms recovered were taken in a local burglary and an entering auto from December of last year.
