Against the Grovetown Lady Warriors, Cass was down by two with a minute to go and were at the free throw line shooting two.
“We missed both free throws and then failed on a couple of more opportunities in the final 60 seconds,” coach Jamie Horton said.
As a result, Cass saw its fourth-quarter comeback fall short as it lost 44-39 to Grovetown.
In earning their 10th victory of the season, Grovetown overcame an early 8-1 deficit.
“We came out strong, but then we became impatient on offense which allowed them [Lady Warriors] to chip away at our lead,” Horton said.
By the time halftime rolled around, Cass was trailing, 20-12. Grovetown held that same eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, 34-26.
North Forsyth 63, Cartersville 35
In Game 1 of the Pickens holiday tournament, the Carterville Lady Purple Hurricanes scored 77 points in their loss to the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets. In Game 2, the Lady Canes scored at will from the perimeter in their 67-58 victory over the Shiloh Lady Generals.
In Game 3, Cartersville left its scoring punch in the locker room in its 63-35 lopsided loss to the North Forsyth Lady Raiders Saturday.
“It was just one of those games where you hope to learn from it,” coach Cindy Moore said. “North Forsyth executed well both offensively and defensively.”
