The 2012 event marked the first year when law enforcement agencies from across Bartow County became involved with the program. Emerson Police Chief Stan Bradley said approximately 100 officers from Cartersville, Adairsville, Euharlee, Kingston, Emerson, the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia State Patrol, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Atlanta police, Bartow and Gordon County 911 personnel and probation, parole and pardons departments volunteered to help with the event. An additional 75 volunteers were on hand as well.
Bradley said the children spent approximately $50,000, with another $10,000 left over. Those extra funds will roll over into next year’s event, he said.
Shop With A Cop is now set up to take donations throughout the year, Bradley added. Those wishing to donate may do so at any Bank of the Ozarks, with checks made out to Shop With A Cop.
“I just want to thank everyone that volunteered their time and everybody that was able to donate to make this happen,” Bradley said, “because this was a wonderful turnout from both sides, from the kids and the volunteers. I think the kids really had a great time and really got a lot from it.”
