The Cass Lady Colonels equaled their entire winning output from last year with their 57-50 victory over the Woodland Lady Wildcats Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Colonels evened their record at 2-2 on the season by hitting all 12 of their free throws in the fourth quarter and never wavering against the Lady Wildcats’ constant pressure.

Cass was 2-24 overall during the 2011-12 season.

“Last year’s team would have folded when the other team would have taken the lead,” Cass coach Jamie Horton said. “Not this year’s team. We showed a lot of growth and maturity out there on the court today, especially in the second half.”

Cass led by as many as 13 points in the first half, only to see its lead cut to two, 21-19, heading into the third quarter. It was 35-33 Cass heading into the fourth quarter.

Tied nine times throughout the second half, the Lady Colonels finally pulled away with their fourth quarter, free throw perfection.

“The way we shot free throws against Woodland was way different than how did at the free throw line in our first game,” Horton said. “We were awful. I think we shot something like 24 percent from the line.”
