One dead, one injured in I-75 crash

One person was pronounced dead at Cartersville Medical Center Wednesday after being transported by Bartow's Emergency Medical Services following a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 northbound just before exit 290.

According to Cartersville Police Public Information Officer Lt. Mark Camp, the victim has been identified as a 65-year-old man from St. Augustine, Fla., who was driving a 2004 Dodge pick-up truck. His 64-year-old female passenger was entrapped and suffered severe injuries, resulting in her being transported by air ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

The victims' names have not been released.

An accident investigation has not yielded a cause for the incident, but the truck was pulling a trailer carrying another vehicle and crossed several lanes of traffic before flipping.

Suspect arrested after robbery attempt

Wednesday morning Cartersville Police Department officers were called to the East Main Street Dollar Tree after a suspect attempted to commit a robbery at 10:32 a.m.

According to Cartersville Police Public Information Officer Lt. Mark Camp, the suspect did not have a weapon during the attempted robbery. The suspect fled the scene without being successful in his attempt, and after being given a description of the suspect, officers located him across the street at the Kroger store.

Officers arrested Calvin Fletcher Kent, 51, of Cartersville 13 minutes aver being dispatched to the scene. Kent was charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery and booked in at the Bartow County jail.
