Covering 100,000 square feet, Landmann USA imports and distributes outdoor living accessories to retailers across the country. Building on the success of annual warehouse sales, the Cartersville facility now boasts a retail outlet open to the public.

While some products are available at retailers, such as Lowe's and Home Depot, the complete Landmann line of firepits, grills, smokers and accessories now is available at the Old Mill Road warehouse.

"Landmann is a direct importer and distributor of quality charcoal grills, fire pits, smokers, wood storage and fire grates. Our primary business here is distribution and then we direct import to mass merchants, such as Home Depot and Lowe's, directly from China. We are a member of the GT Group based out of Germany with global sourcing all over the world but primarily with our sister company in China," said Customer Service Supervisor April Kilgore. "We distribute product here out of this location to mass merchants, such as Amazon, brick and mortar-type stores. And with our warehouse sales being successful, it was just a natural fit for us to open the retail store."

For about five years Landmann has invited members of the public to stroll the warehouse floor once a year on the weekend before Thanksgiving. With sustained response from returning customers, Landmann crafted a retail space out of what was used as a showroom.

"It's space we had that wasn't being utilized. And we have historically had a warehouse sale once a year opened up to the public and had a big turnout, a big draw from local people. And a lot of people would ask, 'Why don't you open up more often,'" said Controller Jack Sable.

Using existing space, Landmann was able to create the new retail outlet with little additional overhead. Staff manning the store are on a rotating schedule from departments throughout the company.

"We're very excited about it and the fun part is that it's kind of employee run at the moment so we kind of get a break from our regular job and put on our retail hat. It's fun to help people select a product and to educate them on something as simple as a wood-burning fire pit and it has really pulled our team together," Kilgore said.

Sable has found the store to add more than just a new outlet for sales. Teamwork, training and development have all improved by rotating staff members to man the retail storefront.

"It's been good because it's gotten people that aren't used to dealing with customers in a customer environment and people are learning to do things on the computer system that they hadn't done before, everybody now knows how to process a customer order," Sable said. "So we're getting some cross training as a result of it and we're getting expanded product knowledge where people that didn't know what we were selling are now seeing it and touching it and selling it. So overall, I think it's going to be a benefit to the employees, to the company and help develop the employees -- and we're getting more and more traffic."

In addition to Landmann products, the retail store carries Big Green Egg smokers and branded accessories. Landmann has had a long relationship with Big Green Egg, once manufacturing parts for the company before an internal overhaul moving to a focus on distribution. Today, every packaged Big Green Egg passes through the Cartersville facility for packaging and assembly. Big Green Egg products are the only items not sold below suggested retail at the Landmann store.

"Pricing is below suggested retail with the exception of the Big Green Egg, but for the Landmann-branded products and accessories it is below retail. For closeouts and clearance items, it may be at or below dealer cost," Kilgore said. "Most of our customers, such as a Lowe's or a Home Depot, may only take one of our fire pits -- here it's the entire selection.

"Even what's in the store is not a true representation of what we have available. If they see something or they want a different color, we have it."

Promotional sales events, like their original warehouse sales, are scheduled to coincide with upcoming holidays falling on the Saturdays before Memorial Day, Father's Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.

Landmann, open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is located in the former Glad facility at 101 Old Mill Road, building 300, across from Old Mill Farms. For more information, call 770-606-8903 or visit -- website prices do not reflect outlet prices.
