More people and less money: Those two factors lie at the center of what drove up Bartow County's crime rate in the middle of the past decade, officials say.

On April 15, The Daily Tribune News reported that, despite the national trend of declining property and violent crimes, local agencies had seen fluctuations ahead of and in conjunction with the economic downturn.
