An aggressive driver and a woman who began as the victim were arrested Friday afternoon after a confrontation on Tennessee Street.
According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office reports, Clayton Branscum was driving a Nissan Altima behind a Ford Explorer along Tennessee Street about 3:30 p.m. when he began tailgating and honking at the SUV.
The driver of the Explorer said Branscum pulled around her, removed his shirt and held up a baseball bat while yelling at her. She said she followed him to the Suntrust on Joe Frank Harris Parkway to get the car’s tag number and call 911.
According to the woman, her daughter, Terika Mostella, exited the SUV and yelled at Branscum, who argued with the girl before going into the bank.
A passenger in the SUV confirmed the woman’s story.
When the deputy arrived, he reported seeing Branscum exit the bank, shirtless, speaking loudly and flailing his arms. The 19-year-old told the deputy he followed the vehicle, removed his shirt and shook a bat at the vehicle, saying, “Y’all don’t want none of this.”
Branscum’s passenger confirmed the series of events, telling the deputy she “didn’t really understand why” he became upset with the driver of the SUV.
An assisting deputy attempted to interview Mostella, who “began to yell and curse loudly,” according to the report. The deputy said people leaving the bank’s drive-through were stopping and staring at Mostella.
According to the report, Mostella admitted to confronting Branscum and to trying to provoke his girlfriend into an altercation.
Mostella allegedly became so loud that the initial deputy could hear her across the parking lot. At that point, the assisting deputy placed her under arrest for disorderly conduct. She then began to curse at the deputy, saying, “Get your hands off me, [expletive] pig.”
When the deputy placed Mostella into the vehicle, she allegedly attempted to spit on him. Once in the patrol vehicle, Mostella began to strike her head against the bars on the seat. She was transported to the jail without incident.
Branscum was arrested and charged with aggressive driving and following too closely.
