R.J. "Jack" Popham, 73, of Bates Road, Cartersville, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011.

Mr. Popham was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Bartow County, a son of the late Henry Jackson "Jack" Popham and Delia McCollum Popham.

He was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Cartersville where he served on the Board of Trustees, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir, was a 50-year member and past worshipful master of the John W. Akin Masonic Lodge #537, was a past member of the Cartersville School Board, member and past chairman of the Ga. Oilman's Association and retired owner of the Popham Oil Company. Jack was in the oil business for over 40 years. He was a member of the Cartersville Country Club and loved playing golf and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Diane Jackson Popham, daughters and son-in-law, Jill Popham, of New Bedford, Mass., and Phyllis and Greg Kendricks, of Cartersville, a grandchild, Logan Kendricks, two stepsons and their wives, Jody and Darlis Hobbs and Kevin and Stephanie Hobbs, eight step-grandchildren, Steven Kendricks, Jacklyn Kendricks Sampson, McKenzie Hobbs, Ansley Hobbs, Riley Hobbs, Ethan Hobbs, Will Hobbs, Ben Hobbs and one great-grandchild, Jewell Kendricks.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jay Popham.

Funeral services were held 11 .m., Saturday, June 11, from the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Clinton Green and Rev. Doug Harris officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested contributions to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.

Serving as pallbearers were Cecil Boyd Morris, Jr., Boyd Morris 111, Phillip Morris, James Morris, Mark Cantrell, Jerry Free, Reuben Lowe and Tim Wilson.
