Woodland closed out its regular season with a five-game winning streak to cap a 17-8 campaign by taking care of business on the road against Paulding County, 71-45.

Tuesday's victory rested squarely on the shoulders of the Wildcat defense, which asserted itself in the second half and held the Patriots to 19 points -- the same amount Woodland scored in the third quarter alone.

The Wildcats had held a slim four-point lead at the break, 30-26. They added 22 in the final period. Paulding was held to 12 and 7 points in the third and final period.

"We were up just four points at the half," head coach Mike Tobin said. "We then played real well in the second half."

The 26-point difference between the two teams was slightly more than the Nov. 16 game the two teams played to open the season.

Woodland finished with 18 more points -- 62-44 -- than Paulding did in that game, played Nov. 16.

The Tuesday night win wraps up the regular season for Woodland, which now must wait until Thursday night to learn its playing schedule in the upcoming region tournament, which will be played at Creekview, in neighboring Cherokee County.

Woodland finished in a three-way tie for sixth place in Region 7-AAAA, with a 6-8 record.

Scoring for Woodland were R.J. Williams, 16; Isaiah Niblet 11; Adam Tobin, 8; Daryel Morris, 3; Cameron Mayweather, 9; Greg Murphy, 5; Corey Tobin 5; Jacquez McKay, 6; Terrell Pressley, 4; Brandon Thompson, 1; and Chandler Royal, 3.
